Eunyoung Kim
Deputy Team Manager, Planning & Public Relations Team
AGC Fine Techno Korea Co., Ltd.
About my company and my work
AGC is a global materials manufacturer whose businesses in glass, electronics, chemicals, life sciences and ceramics provide value and possibilities to people around the world. My company, AGC Fine Techno Korea, is part of the electronics company’s Display Division and is the Korean base for producing display glass for liquid crystal displays. Measuring roughly 3 meters by 3.5 meters and no more than 0.5 millimeters thick, this large and thin display glass is used in the screens of TVs watched by people around the world.
I joined the general affairs and human resources team in 2007 and am currently serving on the planning and public relations team. My role involves planning various communication strategies not only within the company but also outside it. I have multiple missions covering a variety of people and fields, and I feel I am well-suited to the tasks of meeting lots of people and exploring intangible value. I have recently become interested in motivating individual employees, so I read books related to the topic and have discussions with my colleagues about the essential question: “Where does the employee’s motivation come from?”
As someone who likes to think deeply and carefully about everything, this kind of communication is very enjoyable for me, and my perception is that it leads to more rewards and motivation to work.

Enjoyable working life (and an introduction to the town)
The city I live in, Gumi, is located in the southern part of South Korea (about a three-hour drive from Seoul). It is a typical industrial city that has grown in step with the country’s economic development since 1969, serving as a hub for the production bases of electronic and mobile companies.
The city has a relatively high proportion of young people and children, with well-established book-related facilities and a rich cultural environment. There is also a strong interest in children’s education. Responding to the needs of the local community, we actively work on building relationships, such as hosting children’s book events organized by our company.
I once read in a book, “People are born to contribute to this world through their work.” For me, having passionate colleagues and meaningful work makes life enjoyable, and I believe the true value of work as well as one of life’s joys is what you get in the moment.

On weekends, my family and I take our camper to a nearby campground or beach. This is a very refreshing time for me, where I can be in nature, rest my brain and leisurely enjoy a book without thinking about anything else. On weekdays, I also make time to relax and talk with my children, who are now in junior high and high school and are busy keeping up with their school schedules.
I’ve been going camping for over seven years now, and I’ve been to many places in Korea. Last year I went to Jeju Island with a camper on a boat. I think the appeal of camping is that you can enjoy sights and scenery that you cannot usually see from a fixed building.
Next time, if I have a chance, I would like to rent a campervan somewhere abroad and stay overnight somewhere where I can experience the beautiful nature unique to that country. If you have any recommendations for places to visit in your country, please let me know!
